of Association of Trial Lawyers of America
Mary E. Alexander
(Monterey, CA) - Mary Alexander, a San Francisco attorney who is President of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, is bringing over two hundred of the country's top lawyers, the Board of Governors of ATLA, to Monterey, CA, May 1-3 "to strengthen the fight against the Administration's and Congress' anti-consumer actions, especially concerning medical malpractice rights, and class action lawsuits against major malfeasant corporations like Enron and Global Crossing, who are almost unaccountable on issues from pensions to pollution."

On Friday, May 2 at 6 P.M.  and Saturday, May 3 at 1 P.M., during a three-day series of strategy meetings in Monterey by ATLA's full 200+ Board of Governors, Alexander and colleagues will hold media availabilities on strategies and developments in the battle against the Administration's attack on consumers' medical malpractice and class action rights.  The press availabilities will be at the site of the meeting, the Monterey Plaza Hotel, 400 Cannery Row, Monterey, California.

Alexander stated, "The Administration almost daily bashes consumers' rights to justice in the medical malpractice and class action arenas.  It's time to take a stand. We must empower consumers against the Administration and corporate giants when they abrogate our rights. That's what the legal system and the Constitution allow.  If it were not for the nation's trial attorneys, I'd hate to think of what corporations would get away with in environmental, health, safety, and pollution standards.  The attorneys who devote their lives to legal justice for consumers are far too rarely given proper credit for protecting America and its citizens.  Unfortunately, even as we speak, that battle for consumers' rights is being threatened more than ever. Congress is on the bubble on this issue, and we must act."

Media wishing to speak with or interview Alexander at other times may also call Bob Weiner, 202-329-1700 to make arrangements.
