McCaffrey, now West Point professor, and Karlin to discuss "the future of national drug policy and addiction treatment";

PALM BEACH, Fla.-- Four-Star General Barry McCaffrey (USA Ret.), former US National Drug Policy Director, now West Point Adjunct Professor on International Affairs and a national terrorism and drug policy expert in the media, and Dr. Barry Karlin, CEO of CRC Health Group, the nation's largest chemical dependency and behavioral treatment provider, will open and keynote the "Moment of Change" conference of more than 500 leading drug and behavioral interventionists at the Breakers Hotel, Palm Beach, Florida.

Their 90-minute opening keynote session, Monday, October 1, 2007, beginning at 8:30 a.m., will be open to the press. McCaffrey and Karlin will discuss "The Future of National Drug Policy, Intervention, and Addiction Treatment." Following the keynote session, McCaffrey and Karlin will conduct a press availability at 10:00 a.m.

McCaffrey and Karlin will point out that 23.2 million Americans need alcohol or drug treatment according to the latest federal Department of HHS statistics, but only 3.9 million are receiving it. In Florida, 1.5 million lack treatment.

The conference will have more than 500 drug and behavioral treatment and intervention leaders from throughout the United States including the Betty Ford Center, The Canyon, Pine Grove, Caron, the Illinois Institute for Addiction Recovery, the Association of Intervention Specialists, and CRC Health, which Karlin leads, the country's largest drug treatment and behavioral provider with 143 facilities in 30 states and the UK. Leading interventionists, counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists, family therapists, social workers, doctors, nurses, researchers, and other medical professionals and interventionists of all types will be delegates.
